How journal editors (and all academics) can benefit from social media – talk by Andy Miah

An interesting talk on the uses of Social Media by academics by Andy Miah who is Director of the Creative Futures Institute & Professor of Ethics and Emerging Technologies, University of the West of Scotland.

Andy discusses the benefits of social media for journal editors, not only for publicity, but also as a platform for conversations, for pulling in information about related research activity, and nurturing a cohesive research community around your journal. He argues that research activity is being increasingly shaped by the availability of social media and the consumption of digital media on mobile phones and tablets and their associated apps.

Andy describes his personal use of social media, especially Twitter, for dissemination, discussion, and public engagement.

Andy Miah was initially asked how social media can benefit journal editors, but he broadened the reach to consider how it can be usefully applied by all academic researchers.
